Introduction to a new book by Joan Doyle and Justin Elledge

“See a penny, pick it up,
All the day, you’ll have good luck!”
We have often heard this about pennies found on the sidewalk, that its good luck, a sign of the abundance of the universe or gifts from angels. I developed a slightly different twist on the found penny after someone shared this idea.

Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription, "In God We Trust". It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God's way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful!

As a seeker on the Spiritual path, always desiring to know God’s will for my life, it struck me as a wonderful, yet so simple reminder of my alignment with a higher power. It is said, “It is done on to you as you believe,” and so it is with me now as I believe that the found penny is an affirmation that I am on my perfect path. I have been amazed by the ways in which such a simple signpost has helped me find my way, by either affirming a decision I just made or making me aware of a broader perspective I was not seeing. It’s like a line of communication with the divine.

Sometimes the message is humorous and sometimes more serious but found pennies are now one way I feel connected with the universe. It’s like a game with a profound aspect to it. If I find a cluster of coins it’s like a sentence rather than a word. I have found an amazing number of coins, quarters, Euros, nickels, dimes and of course, pennies in the last few years.
I have shared my penny stories with friends who similarly inspired have taken up this idea and now have their own stories of affirmation to tell. My wife Joan took on this concept with enthusiasm as you will see from the stories she shares in our book. We hope when you read our stories they inspire you to play with these ideas and find you are not alone. There is guidance and connection available at your feet if you desire it. In this on-going conversation with God thankfully pennies are plentiful and God is patient.....
